Character Interview: Sylvia Dowder from A Lady's Virtue by A.S. Fenichel
We’re thrilled to be talking to Sylvia Dowder from A.S.
Fenichel’s, A Lady’s Virtue. It
is a pleasure to have her with us today at Pimp That Character!
Thank you for your interview, Misss Dowder. How old are you and what do you do for a
living?
It’s not generally asked so bluntly. However, I am nearly
twenty-five. I have recently become a member of the Everton Domestic Society. I
work as an Everton lady helping others get along in society.
Can you tell us about one of your most distinguishable
features?
Let’s see, I’m on the thin side. Mother always complains
that I need to put on some weight. She says men don’t like skinny girls.
However, as I’m no longer a girl and not under my parents’ roof, I should not
worry about what they think.
What makes you laugh out loud?
I do love a bit of wicked humor. My twin sister and I used
to have such fun make light of any situation.
What is your greatest fear?
Disappointing others and being left all alone.
What is the trait you most like about yourself?
I’m quite bright and have a good eye for details.
Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?
I think she did her best. Most people think I’m willful and
foolish. However, I didn’t choose to be discarded just before my wedding. I
would have married that imbecile if he’d stood by his word. As it is, I am
happy at Everton’s. Here no one judges me and I am in control of my own
destiny.
What is your idea of a perfect day?
I would go to work and spend time with Tony. I’m currently
assigned to help the new Earl of Grafton decorate his townhouse and plan a few
events.
I shouldn’t say I want to spend time with him. He is my
client and nothing more, but the sight of him brings me so much happiness and
longing for what I cannot have.
We might go and order furniture for his new home or have a
picnic where he will serve his family’s wine.
The only bad thing will be at the end of the day when I must
return to Everton House and how I miss him.
Are you a loner or do you prefer to surround yourself with
friends?
It is always good to have friends around to keep one from
worrying about what cannot be changed. I’m lucky to have found some wonderful
friends at the Everton Domestic Society.
Who is your best friend?
My twin sister, Serena. Though, I don’t see her as much as I
wish. I hope to change that soon.
If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you
do today?
I would tell Tony that I love him and have been a fool to
hide my feelings.

BOOK BLURB:
Can a broken engagement ignite the spark of true love?Sylvia Dowder had almost made it to the altar when her fiancé unexpectedly became a viscount, and dropped her like a stale crumpet to make a more “suitable” match. Though Sylvia’s heart has been crushed, her spirit has not. She puts her wits and social savvy to use as a secret gossip columnist—and as the Everton Domestic Society’s party planner to the ton. Luckily, she’s not in danger of ever falling for an aristocrat again…
Especially not one like Anthony Braighton, Earl of Grafton. Raised in America, Anthony sees no reason to marry when he can enjoy all the perks of being an eligible earl. Determined to convince his family he doesn’t need a wife, he hires Sylvia to act as hostess and decorator for upcoming parties. Yet Sylvia is as adept at captivating his interest as she is at beautifying his home. And despite this Everton lady’s aversion to titled men, some attractions can’t be denied—and love rarely does go where it’s told . . .
