Character Interview with 'Storm of Arranon' Erynn Yager

We’re thrilled to be talking to Erynn Yager from Robynn Sheahan’s Storm of Arranon. It is a pleasure to have her with us today at Pimp That Character!

Thank you for your interview, Erynn. How old are you and what do you do for a living?

Well, I guess in Earth years I’d be seventeen, and I’m a Cadet, a student at a military academy enrolled in Interceptor Fighter pilot training. And by the way, I’m the youngest student ever admitted to the academy. Yep. That’s been interesting.

Can you tell us about one of your most distinguishable features?

I have ice-blue eyes. They aren’t my father’s eyes, his were brown. They aren’t my mother’s eyes, hers were gray. I have wondered about this.

What would I hate the most about you?

I’m intelligent, independent, and stubborn. Not necessarily bad traits but sometimes, okay a lot, I rely on my own ideas and not on people around me, getting myself into trouble.

What is in your refrigerator right now?

Kree! And ice. Kree is a drink, like Pepsi. I like it with lots of ice.

What is your greatest fear?

This is an easy one. My adoptive dad, Damon, and I fear the government will find out who and what I am. I have a blended parentage. My birth father, Zander, is Arranon, and my mother Alessa is from Korin. It’s not allowed. In fact it’s a strict violation enforced on both worlds.

Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?

She’s getting better. I’d like to be a little more outgoing, so we’re working on that.

If you could change one physical thing about yourself, what would that be?

I’d like to be taller, and maybe more graceful. I feel like I’m awkward, but when I fly . . . well, haven’t really flown yet. Just simulators.

Are you a loner or do you prefer to surround yourself with friends?

I’m a loner out of necessity. I don’t have many friends, not close friends, more like acquaintances. You see, I wasn’t supposed to live because of my blended parentage. At least that’s what our government wants everyone to believe. But I did live and I have special abilities like bending time, seeing future events, manipulating the electromagnetic energy field around me, and sensing people’s emotions. My dad had quite a time with me when I was little and threw a temper tantrum!

What is your favorite weather?

Storms! I love thunderstorms, rainstorms, snowstorms, windstorms, any kind of storm.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I’ve always wanted to be an Interceptor Fighter pilot like my dad. He gave up his flying career to take care of me after my mom died. A good move for him. He became Commanding General over all of Korin’s military, but I know he misses the thrill of flying.

About the Author
I have always been a reader. I love books. When I’m not able to read, I listen to audio books. I started writing while working as a Paramedic/Firefighter in Northern California. Trust me, it’s not like it appears on TV. There was plenty of time for books, mostly reading them. I didn't seriously start writing until I moved to my ranch in Oregon. While waiting for lambs to be born in the middle of the night, I would head back to the house for an hour or two and sit down at the computer. Before I knew it, I had a manuscript. Not a good one, but a start.I joined critique groups and attended writer's conferences. I was on the fast track to learning.
In 2013, I received an honorable mention in Writer’s Digest’s Self Published book awards for MG/YA. I guess I am learning something!
Ideas from dreams follow me into warm sunny days or the quiet of falling snow. “What ifs” feed a vivid imagination. Even mistyped phrases may lead to an "aha" moment. Brain storming sessions standing in windy, dark parking lots with fellow writers release thoughts that pry at the corners of my mind, grasping for purchase. Sometimes the ideas pursue me, with persistence.
