Character Interview: Christopher Styles of 'Material Things'
We’re thrilled to be talking to Christopher Styles from Larry Spencer’s, Material Things. It is a pleasure to have him with us today at Pimp That Character!
Thank you for your interview,
Christopher. How old are you and what do
you do for a living?
I am 24 years old and I write TV sitcoms and also own
a hip clothing store in Sherman Oaks, California. Selling
bellbottom pants and trendy apparel.
I would say my sarcasm.
What would I love the most
about you?
My wit and edgy humor.
What would I hate the most
about you?
My sarcasm. Once had a date with this girl who at the end
of the evening said I was the most sarcastic person she’s ever met and to never
call her again.
Where do you go when you are
angry?
I drive in my car, chain smoke and yell at horrible
drivers for making stupid mistakes on the road.
What makes you laugh out
loud?
Watching George Carlin do his stand up routine. The
Man is a genius. His observations on life, death and happiness are spot on.
What is in your refrigerator
right now?
A six pack of Pepsi, Coors beer, cheese and a bottle
of cheap wine. Maybe a leftover cold slice of pepperoni pizza.
What is your most treasured
possession?
My 1960 Porsche 350 SC.
What is your greatest fear?
Root canal. Being trapped in an elevator, heights and
any chance World War III might break out.
Do you think the author
portrayed you accurately?
Yes. But I’m better looking and have a better
hairline.
If you could change one
physical thing about yourself, what would that be?
Better hair. It’s curly and I hate curls.
Who is your best friend?
Matthew Street. My business
partner in the boutique.
Do you have children?
Not any that I know about.
What is your favorite
weather?
Sunny California. .
What’s your idea of a perfect
meal?
Steak, baked potato, green beans, chocolate cake.
Someone is secretly in love
with you. Who is it and how do you feel
about that?
I wouldn’t let it go to my head. Although it would
boost my ego. I would hope it was Ina Byers and girl I always had the hots for
in high school but never could get to first base. My kind of perfect.
When you were a child, what
did you want to be when you grew up?
Cartoonist. Started drawing when I was five.
What is your most treasured
possession?
I answered that already. Pay attention, man.
If you knew you were going to
die tomorrow, what would you do today?
Get a second opinion.
About the Author
LARRY SPENCER published his first novel, The Tipping Point Of Oliver Bass in the
summer of 2017. A story that covered the life of a pathologically arrogant,
wealthy young man who sets off on a journey of self-discovery, family tragedy,
and sexual conquest in a modern California
noir backdrop. Spencer has been a
Writer’s Guild of America member since the late 70s, having written and
produced a multitude of highly successful TV shows, which culminated into
writing several feature films. He was then encouraged to pen his second book, Material Things, a story based on true
events that takes place in the 60s &70s and tackles organized crime, drugs
and embezzlement during a time when bellbottom pants ruled the fashion scene. He lives in Valley
Village, California.

About the Book:
Larry
Spencer’s riveting, interlocking narratives circle the lives of Matthew Street,
Jon Lewis and Christopher
Styles, in a 1970s California backdrop that takes
them from owning and operating a fashionable clothing boutique into the gripping
world of an FBI under cover operation, drug trafficking, prostitution and a
nefarious criminal element, that brings to light a Mafia contract killer, who’s
out to bump off a stoolie in their midst.
Material
Things is based on true events surrounding the store that introduced bellbottom
jeans to a hip Southern California crowd and how it
became, not only a cottage industry but also an arena fraught with danger and
moral strife that put the store and it’s owners under close scrutiny after an
alarming number of felonious activities surface.
The
climax is anything but conventional as Matthew, Jon and Christopher are
confronted with a life threatening reality that they never imagined could
happen just by selling bellbottom pants.
