Character Interview: Kate Beckham of 'Beckham 101'

We’re thrilled to be talking to Kate Beckham the author from The Kate and Robert Chronicles and her new book, Beckham 101.  It is a pleasure to have you with us today at Pimp That Character!

Thank you for your interview, Kate.  How old are you and what do you do for a living?

Yes, thank you for this opportunity. My name is Kate Beckham. I am 26 and I have my nursing license but I am newly wedded and currently a stay at home wife taking care of my husband Robert and our household.

What makes you laugh out loud?

  Oh… a lot of things… but lately it’s been getting away with surprising my husband Robert. He is a very well trained police officer and can read people very well. Usually nothing gets by him but I have managed to pull a few surprises out of my hat without him finding out until it was time. There was this one time a few months ago when we were on our honeymoon in San Diego that he had planned and everything was just perfect. He spared no expense I couldn’t have asked for a better way to start our life as a couple… anyways I wanted to do something  nice for him so I managed to pull off an evening at the Padres game.. My husband loves baseball… that night was amazing and his reaction was even better when he found out…

What is your greatest fear?

Right now my greatest fear would be if something happened to my husband. He is a highly trained police officer and he is the top man on the municipal police SWAT team. He has only been called out once so far since we have been together but that was once too much for me. It took that night to really make me hate his chosen profession with all the danger that he faces on a daily level... There are some really crazy people out there and he has such a high risk job… so yes my greatest fear is losing Robert. He really has become my world.

What is your idea of a perfect day?

 My perfect day would just be spending quiet time with my husband.. We do so much and Robert is constantly training… I still can’t believe the energy he has.. he is a machine and being a nurse I just worry he is gonna burn himself out.. so my perfect day would be hanging out with the hubby, cooking some food together and chilling on the couch.

What are three must haves when shopping at the grocery store?

Oh… my three must haves are my list from Robert and I planning our meals for the week, me sticking to the budget when I walk down the cookie aisle and number three.. number three… umm.. oh.. I never remember to buy laundry detergent… I don’t know why it never makes the list. So I should go down every aisle just for that reason.

Are you a loner or do you prefer to surround yourself with friends?

I am equally both. I love to be around my friends and family. My husband right now wants me to be everywhere with him so my down time lately is only when he is at work and I have to say… I am enjoying that at the moment to get the housework done but here is the funny thing, when I am home alone all’s I think about is Robert and how I can’t wait to see him again.

Do you have children?

 We do not have children but my husband wants a houseful. He would like nothing better than to keep me barefoot and pregnant the rest of my life. We have been back and forth on when to start a family and as much as I want a little Robert running around right now that my husband has introduced me to the world of travel and I am liking it just being us at the moment. His mother lives in Ireland and his dad lives in England. We got to spend some time over there and I can’t wait to go back. Oh I went to France for a very quick trip too! We are definitely going back there for at least a week without a baby.

Someone is secretly in love with you.  Who is it and how do you feel about that?

 Oh jeez… I pray for their sole… My over protective lug will bury them. Let’s home there is nobody secretly in love with me because if Robert finds out they will be dead.

Do you like to cook?  If so, what is your favorite thing to cook?

 Oh… I am becoming a cook book hoarder.. I cannot throw out a single recipe… I have several chef hero’s … Julia Childs, Lucinda Scala Quinn to name a few and I love watching cooking shows and trying new recipes. Sometimes planning Robert’s meals for the week is challenging because there are many good things out there… I try to balance it out by his training for the week because he needs a lot of lean proteins. I just love to cook always have since I was little. Seafood is new to me and Robert loves seafood, I’m not that big into it. I like fish and chips, that’s about my history with seafood so I am now learning to cook seafood.

If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?

 I would cry. My life is just starting. I have a husband that I adore and new responsibilities I am getting use to with new family I am adjusting to and love very much. I will never give up, never surrender!
