Character Interview with Julie Whitaker of 'One Way Ticket Home'

We’re thrilled to be talking to Julie Whitaker from K.C. Hardy’s, One-Way Ticket Home.  It is a pleasure to have her with us today at Pimp That Character!
Thank you for your interview, Julie Whitaker.  How old are you and what do you do for a living?
A lady never divulges her age.  But I will tell you that I have two grown daughters and I am a private investigator.
Can you tell us about one of your most distinguishable features?
I have dominant high cheekbones courtesy of my father’s Cherokee lineage.
What would I love the most about you?
I enjoy life to the fullest in spite of some of the difficult struggles I’ve endured.
What is your greatest fear?
That I will never completely be able to move on from my first love, Mark Jennings.
What is the trait you most not like about yourself?
I am too trusting.  And I pay the price.
Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?
Yes. Sometimes a little too accurately.
What are three must haves when shopping at the grocery store?
Great question.  M&M’s, cheetos and more M&M’s.
I’m opening up your cabinet.  What foods do I see?
You will see the struggle to be good alongside the temptation to be bad. Whole grain crackers, steel-cut oatmeal, honey, can of green beans, roasted peanuts (no salt).  And you’ll also see double-stuffed oreos next to a package of margarita mix.
If you could change one physical thing about yourself, what would that be?
That I could be my college size 4 again.  But who over 40 doesn’t wish that?
Are you a loner or do you prefer to surround yourself with friends?
Both.  I definitely love a good night out with friends. But I enjoy my own company too.
Someone is secretly in love with you.  Who is it and how do you feel about that?
My high school sweetheart Tom never stopped loving me.  And it pulls at my heart strings.

About the Book:

Days before boarding the plane to Italy for her daughter’s wedding, Julie Whitaker receives an unexpected phone call from her past. The memory of Mark Jennings, a handsome and charming Top Gun pilot, had haunted her for decades. Their fairy tale wedding was everything she’d ever dreamed
of, but it quickly turned into her worst nightmare.

Starting a new a life without Mark proved to be much harder than Julie had imagined. But in her darkest hour, God revealed Himself in a miraculous way, giving her the strength she needed not only to battle depression, but to face a diagnosis of breast cancer that threatened to cut her life short.

Now, amidst the splendor of the Italian Alps, on the eve of her daughter’s wedding, Julie’s thoughts are catapulted back to Mark and the reason for his call.  After thirty years, will Julie have a chance to see him once again? And would she even want to?
Based on true events, One-Way Ticket Home will take you on an unforgettable journey of love, loss, hope and forgiveness. With grace, candor and an indomitable wit, K.C. Hardy reminds us that it is often in our darkest hours, that the strength of the human spirit shines the brightest.
