Character Interview: Brent Holcomb from Sean Dow's A LEAFY GREEN WORLD & AL-THAR

We’re thrilled to be talking to Brent Holcomb from Sean Dow’s A Leafy Green World and sequel, Al-thar.  It is a pleasure to have Brent with us today at Pimp That Character!

Thank you for your interview, Brent.  How old are you and what do you do for a living?

36, and I am a doctor, or at least I was before the witness protection plan rearranged my life and dropped me off in the Philippine islands.

What is in your refrigerator right now?

Fresh fruit and a Glock 19!

What is the trait you most not like about yourself?

I have a tendency to speak my mind, a little more forcibly than I should, and usually before I stop to think about the implications of what I’m going to say; my knee-jerk reactions tend to get me in a bit of trouble!

Do you think the author portrayed you accurately?

Very much so-couldn’t have done a better job, myself.

What are three must haves when shopping at the grocery store?

Scotch bonnet peppers, big shrimp and a huge selection of premium coffee.

Are you a loner or do you prefer to surround yourself with friends?

I love to be with friends. Of course, after reading my story you can see where that got me.

Do you have children?

I had a beautiful daughter, Jadan. She was killed by a drunken driver when she was 3. Never have gotten over it, or the anger I have at the bureaucracy that allowed it to happen-guess I’ll never get past that.

What’s your idea of a perfect meal?

Lamb korma, a little on the spicy side with all the na’an I can eat, followed by a cup of Persian coffee.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Normal. I was raised in a life of extreme privilege, travelling the world and meeting the movers and shakers. Sounds great, but life was so regimented, and I was expected to always be on my best behavior. I would have given anything for a normal upbringing, with normal friends.

About the Author

Sean Dow is a pulmonary and critical care physician in Great Falls, Montana. He started writing thriller novels in 2011, and has three titles, one of which, Debridement, is in its second printing and is being made into a feature film.

Sean was born in Iowa City, but was raised on a small farm in Kansas before leaving for medical school, and the adventures beyond. His career was largely in Klamath Falls, Oregon, a town that still feels like home. He did a brief stent in Las Vegas before moving to the paradise of Montana. When not working or writing, Sean can be found in the kitchen perfecting his New York cheesecake, or on the mountain streams with Bailey, his beloved (and perfectly behaved) Mastiff and his favorite 2 weight fly rod-a parting gift from a dear friend and patient.

Title: Al-thar
Author: Sean Dow
Publisher: Two Harbors Press
Pages: 466
Genre: Thriller

In Al-thar, (Arabic:revenge) Brent is living a tranquil life on the peaceful Philippine island of Masbate. But the FBI's witness protection plan is not enough when you have destroyed the plans of the world's most feared terrorist group-an assassin is on the way, and his plans are far worse than a simple bullet in the head.

With the violent destruction of his new island home, Dr. Holcomb is once again thrust into danger, this time on an international level. There are only two outcomes in this new high-stakes match, Brent's painful and public death and the destruction of
America's, or the death of Saadullah Abul Ka-beir, and his council.

Brent brings together his cast of memorable friends from A Leafy Green World as he devises the greatest deception ever imagined. The action goes at a break-neck pace from the
Philippines to Washington, D.C., and from a remote valley in Pakistan to the jungles of Sierra Leone in this novel that has been described as almost too real, and too timely.
